El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church
Church History
May 1959 –  Organized as Willing  Workers  Baptist Church.  Rev. James Steamer elected Pastor.
Purchased first building site at 8723 Comal

1960 - Acquired wooden structure seating approximately 150.

1961 - Rev. Steamer resigned and W. Gaston became pastor. He later resigned.

June 1962 - Name changed to El Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. Rev. Rugley Monroe, Jr.
Elected as pastor.

June 1967 - Ground breaking and erection of new building seating approximately 250.

1978  - Expansion and Annexation - Fellowship Hall and Day Care. Seating capacity
approximately 500.

1987 -   Formed Ambassador’s for Christ Marching Drill Team under the leadership of Bro.
Rugley Monroe, III

1980’s – 1999 - Acquired  additional lots for the building of  new sanctuary.

1993 - Celebrated 34 years, retired the debt, mortgage burning

1997 - Began plans for New Sanctuary and initiated building fund pledge.

1999 - Ordained 5 new deacons- Dea(s) Kevin Alix,  Ronnie. Babin, Tim Mitchell,  Derrick
Monroe  and  Jimmy Plummer

2002 - Cleared land directly behind present church for erection of  new  sanctuary. Four lots on
Comal St. And 4 lots on Brandon platted into 1 large lot.

10/20/2002 - Ground-breaking ceremony for New Sanctuary.

2003 Ordained New Minister – Rev. Leonard Ventress. Continuing with plans and  final
preparations to began  building. August 4, 2004 -Construction   begins!!!!  - “Soon to be
completed”
